Macedonia Court Improvements Reflected in User Surveys

PRESS RELEASE

June 2008

A recent public opinion survey, conducted with the help of the USAID Judicial Reform Implementation Project (JRIP) led by DPK Consulting, revealed that 70 percent of customers are satisfied with the services of the courts in Macedonia. These successful results are partially attributable to DPK Consulting's efforts under USAID programming over the last 5 1/2 years to improve court practices and provide technical and material assistance to the courts, Administrative Office of the Court Budget Council, the Academy for Training of Judges and Public Prosecutors, and the Supreme Court. The anonymous survey was implemented in 27 basic courts nationwide and included lawyers, clients, participants in the procedures, as well as court employees. The survey results will be used to identify areas for improvement, and a repeat survey will be conducted in 6 months to measure progress. Though originally conducted with JRIP support, the next survey will be completely institutionalized within the Macedonian judiciary and will be implemented by the basic courts and the Administrative Office of the Court Budget Council.
