Sam Juncker Awarded DPK Leadership Award

PRESS RELEASE

July 15, 2010

On July 15th, 2010, Sam Juncker completed his service as Chief of Party for DPK's Judicial Reform Implementation Project in Macedonia. For almost six years, Sam provided invaluable contributions to DPK projects in the country; first as Court Administration Component Leader and, since March 2008, as JRIP's Chief of Party. During these years Sam led a team of committed professionals who supported the Macedonian judiciary in developing a stronger, more effective, and independent branch of government. The results achieved with Sam's leadership make JRIP recognized by USAID and the broader community as one of the best rule of law projects in the region.

To commend his outstanding contribution to both the Macedonian justice system and people, the DPK home office has awarded him with the first-ever DPK Leadership Award. At the award ceremony Sam's contributions were acknowledged by DPK directors Bob Page, Bill Davis, and Rebecca Silva. "We really appreciate everything you have done to improve the rule of law in Macedonia. You have been a real leader and made us proud of this Project," said Bob. "It is really fulfilling when one can make such an important impact on society that he can be proud of. Some people work all their lives and do not achieve that. Sam, you should be proud of what you have succeeded," concluded Bill.

As Sam would say, good leaders do two things: they set the vision and support the people to attain it. During his work, Sam empowered people to give their best in their areas of expertise, while at the same time offering constant support and positive energy. He will truly be missed by his team. We wish him luck in the future, enjoying his new home in Minnesota, together with his wife, Andrea, his children and grandchildren, and, of course, his two Macedonian dogs.
