DPK supported the Guatemalan justice sector to improve its capacity to combat impunity of violence and serious crimes. Specifically, DPK assisted the Ministerio Publico (MP) to improve investigation and prosecution of homicides and serious crimes; developed effective and efficient information management protocols; carried out analysis and planning to help departments within the MP identify and achieve their goals; implemented the Law Against Organized Crime and other key legislation; and supported the expansion of the 24 hour courts, which have demonstrated success in eliminating the excessive delays that existed previously. Under this program, DPK also worked to support the design and implementation of High Impact Courts; helped mobilize the justice sector and civil society to reduce and prevent violence; strengthened victims assistance services; supported increased accountability and oversight within the justice sector; assisted in promoting Millennium Challenge Indicators; and strengthened justice capacity to combat illegal activities in the region of Peten.
