Improving Justice Service Delivery and Sector Reform

DPK is assisting the Haitian government to build a fair and effective justice system as an essential cornerstone to establishing stability and security, curbing human rights abuses, enabling economic development, and improving citizen confidence in the government. Specifically, the purpose of this contract is to improve justice service delivery in the short term while building an adequate base and enabling environment for sector reform and institutional strengthening in the longer term by: strengthening the Haitian criminal justice system to sanction and deter crime while protecting human rights; improving non-criminal justice services (Justice's of the Peace, Notaries, Land Courts and community mediation); improving standardization, independence, control and oversight of justice sector operations; and, supporting Haitian development of a comprehensive sector reform strategy and action plan. This activity will contribute to achievement of USAID/Haiti Strategic Objective (SO) 521-013 "Improved Rule of Law and Responsive Governance".
